ABOUT US
  • REPURPOSED
By strategically sourcing wood instead of using
intensive forestry methods, we actively reduce the
carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. In this way, each
    TARACEA® creation enriches the environment.
OUR WOODS: WHERE OUR STORY BEGINS
  • RECOVERED
We take great care to recover
    fallen and hurricane-tumbled
    trees without damaging their
    surrounding ecosystems. This
    process can take years from
start to finish. Ours is a difficult
    but highly rewarding job that
allows us to rescue what would
    otherwise have been wasted,
    and to reduce carbon emissions
    in the process.
  • RECLAIMED
    There's a certain beauty that
    only time can create. Our
    reclamation process allows us
    to harness the wood’s
    authentic character in the
    creation of our designs.
  • REFORESTED
We are involved with sustainably managed
forests throughout Mexico, this ensures that
small land owners have an incentive in
    preserving and maintaining forests.
We also have plantations that provide a wood
source that actively contributes to the
reduction of carbon in our atmosphere.

  • REIMAGINED
We are inspired by nature and committed
to preserving her beauty. The woods we
hand select are processed in a way
    that uncovers their natural elegance.
"Our work aims to honor the life of a tree
and its worthy journey through earth,
turning it into an expressive work. "

  • The full integration we’ve developed
at TARACEA® allows us to completely
    control our operation, from
    sourcing, to processing, to the
    socially responsible manufacturing
of our furniture. This commitment to
    excellence ensures that you receive
a product that not only surpasses
expectations in terms of design, but
    also nurtures our environment and
enriches the lives of our employees.
  • OUR MILL
Our woods are processed individually in a way that
maximizes their value and uncovers their natural beauty.
From a single tree, we may allocate sections for
    sculptures, slabs, veneers, or boards.
Some of our woods are over 100” wide, prohibitively dense,
or laced with metal and concrete waste. These challenges
often necessitate hardware that is not commercially
    available.
We have, therefore, developed custom techniques and
tools that allow us to mill even the most difficult logs.
  • Once milled, the woods arrive at our kilns, which are
monitored both locally and remotely from Italy to
    ensure optimum drying.
This part of the process takes about one week for
veneers, and almost three months for 2” to 3” slabs.
Every gust of wind, every fire, and every storm
creates tensions in a tree’s trunk. If not removed at
this stage, they can cause the wood to crack and
split over time. While we sometimes purposefully
create cracks, we want each piece to leave our kilns
    completely stable.
Depending on the wood’s species, shape, and size, it
can take as little as one year to as much as several
decades for a log at our mill to reach our factory
floor. Many pieces must wait years for the right project
to come along. From there, each piece is entrusted
to the skilled hands of our master craftsmen.

  • REFINED
Our furniture is unique, from its striking
original designs – which emphasize both
beauty and functionality – to its
contributions to the environment and our
society. Each piece has a deep and varied
history that sets it apart from
    commercial equivalents.
  • With every TARACEA® creation, our
master craftsmen pay homage to the
500 years of artistry that preceded
    them.

    From ageing techniques to
    hand-applied finishes and decorative
touches, they suffuse each piece of
    furniture with centuries of tradition.
  • While all of our designs
    begin at the mill, our
    craftsmen truly bring
    out the peak expression
    of the wood.
  • At TARACEA®, we use a mentor/apprentice
system. When a master craftsman works
on a TARACEA® creation, an apprentice
assists. This brings him or her one step
closer to becoming a TARACEA® Master
    Craftsman.
  • Our artisan development system is not only socially
responsible; it is socially uplifting. This method has created an
enduring, mutual loyalty, allowing us to retain and nurture our
employees for years at a time. Many families work with us for
    several generations.

  • The word Taracea refers to an artisanal technique that has a history spanning thousands of years. It first meant the joining together of different wood species, and has evolved to denote wooden craft that use bone and metal as decorative elements. Much like the evolution of the word itself, TARACEA® has adapted its product offerings over time. The traditional furniture we came to be known for – with intricate carvings and antique-inspired marquetry – ha made way for our more contemporary, clean-lined pieces.

For over 30 years, we have mastered a wide variety of traditional artisanal methods that lend an earthy warmth to both modern and classical designs. When Javier initially set out to create furniture for his own home, he wanted unique pieces that were full of character, regardless of the decade they reflected. The skill and dedication of the Mexican artisans at TARACEA® has made his dream a reality. Our master craftsmen create each unique piece by hand, from our old world styles to our contemporary and live edge collections.
