ROOTED IN RESPECT
For Taracea, sustainability is more than a responsibility—it’s a relationship. Our connection to the forest begins long before design, in how we manage, harvest, and renew the resources we use.
We approach wood sourcing through three complementary paths, each rooted in long-term balance. Since 1995, we have cultivated and managed our own plantations—living reserves that allow us to actively replenish what we use while reducing pressure on natural forests. These plantations were established on land where little to no forest remained, allowing us not only to reintroduce trees, but to gradually restore the conditions for broader ecosystems to return. Over time, this has enabled the natural regeneration of surrounding areas, where native forest has begun to re-emerge and wildlife has found its way back.
WE PRACTICE RESPONSIBLE FOREST HARVESTING, WORKING PRIMARILY WITH SMALL LANDOWNERS WHO DEPEND ON THEIR LAND FOR LIVELIHOOD.
By creating a stable and fair source of income, we help ensure that forests are preserved rather than cleared—preventing outcomes that might otherwise lead to illegal logging or, in many cases, forests being deliberately burned, one of the leading causes of deforestation worldwide. Each tree taken is part of a broader system designed to allow for natural regeneration, ensuring that new growth continues and the forest sustains itself over time. In this way, responsible harvesting becomes not only a method of sourcing, but a way to support the long-term care of the forest itself.
Equally important is recovery. A significant portion of our materials comes from fallen, reclaimed, or otherwise discarded trees. By giving these materials a second life, we reduce waste and honor the full potential of each tree without further impact on living forests.
BY COMBINING REFORESTATION, RESPONSIBLE HARVESTING, AND MATERIAL RECOVERY, WE CREATE A SOURCING MODEL THAT SUPPORTS BOTH RENEWAL AND RESPONSIBLE USE.
This philosophy extends beyond the forest. Our operations are powered largely by solar energy, reducing our environmental footprint, while our water systems capture rainwater and reintroduce it into the subsoil, supporting the natural cycle rather than interrupting it.
Being fully integrated allows us to oversee every stage—from the forest to the finished piece—ensuring integrity in both material and process. This connection fosters not only environmental respect but also a deeper sense of purpose. To us, true beauty lies in harmony: between people and nature, resource and renewal, craft and conscience. A harmony that endures only when we give back more than we take.
